March 25 - March 29

ELA 7

This week students will begin reading The Testing.  It is a fictional dystopian novel set after the Seven Stages of War.  The world is almost destroyed, and the Earth is devastated from chemicals.  The few people that remain set up colonies in different parts of the country to revive what once was the United States before people destroyed the environment.  This novel connects to the essential question that we have been focusing on: What effects do people have on the environment?

In addition to reading the novel, students will be working on the elements of plot.  We will do some reader's theater throughout the week, and students will identify the parts of the plot in each scene as students perform.

All Study Island grade change correction forms are due by the end of the day on Wednesday.

The Study Island blue ribbon race grand prize winner is period 7/8.  Every student demonstrated mastery of every ELA standard!  Congratulations to the winners!

Have a great week!

March 18 - March 22

ELA 7

On Monday, students will be participating in a St. Patrick's Day themed ELA QR code treasure hunt.  Students will read a passage, go to various places throughout the building, and answer questions about the passage.  The winner gets a "pot of gold."

The final Study Island topic is due on Wednesday.  Any unfinished Study Islands will be input as a score of zero on Friday.  Students will have until March 27th to improve upon previous Study Island scores as long as they attempted the topic prior to March 22nd.  A score of zero cannot be improved upon.

Have a great week!

Parent Homework

Hello,

I have some homework the parents/guardians this week.  As you may be aware of, ELA PSSA testing is April 15, 16, and 17 this year.  These days can be long and/or unpleasant for students.  I like to do things the week of testing to make the experience a little more positive for them and ease their stress/anxiety.

One of the things that I like to do is give them notes of encouragement from their parents/guardians on the first morning of testing.  You would be surprised how much it means to students to get a positive message from a parent or guardian.  If you follow the link and fill out the google form, I will print your message, attach a treat, and deliver it to your student on the morning of testing to brighten his/her day.

Link to Google form: https://goo.gl/forms/w1sG1DuwfBh4zTfD3

If you are not comfortable with Google forms, you can simply email your message to me at mfowler@northschuylkill.net or you can fill out the attached form and send it back to school with your student.

Below you can see some examples from last year.

Thank you,
Mrs. Fowler
