January 4- January 8

Grade 7

This week students will be working on uses for commas.  Students will use commas to separate items in a series and to separate parts of a compound sentence, write using commas to separate items in a series and to separate the parts of a compound sentence, and proofread texts, inserting commas when necessary.

Students will receive a midterm study guide on Wednesday.  The midterm will be open-folder, meaning that students will have access to all of the class resources we've used thus far.  The assessment will be a practical application of skills.  This means that rather than take a multiple choice test, students will be asked to create a piece of writing that incorporates all of the skills they've learned thus far.

Grade 9

Students will continue to read/discuss Night.  Students will complete a RACERS on Tuesday that will require them to analyze the reading and support their response with evidence from the text.  Student will continue to engage in active reading strategies as we go through the book.

Students will receive a midterm study guide on Wednesday.  The midterm will be open-book.  It will be an application of knowledge.  I'm looking for students to show that they can make an assertion about a text, and support that assertion with strong evidence from the text to support their response.
