March 26 - March 29

English Lit/ English Comp

This week students will finish their "Sowing Community" essays.  I have been grading each paragraph as students have completed it.  If your student has a stamp by each paragraph, that means that he or she has earned full credit.  If a student is missing stamps, that means that they need to make corrections or they did not show their work to me.  As of the end of the day today, students should have 4 completed paragraphs/4 stamps.  We will finish the 5th paragraph tomorrow.  Therefore, the essay is due at the end of the class period on Tuesday.

*Test on Wednesday/Thursday
Students will complete a graphic organizer/essay over the course of 2 class periods.  I am going to count this as a test grade.  Once again, I will grade the essays as they are completing them.

In addition to working on essays, we will also complete root words and affixes, word relationships, and technical meanings.  All 3 topics will be due on Study Island on Thursday.

March 19 - March 23

English Lit/ English Comp

There is some uncertainty this week due to conflicting weather reports.  Ideally, I would like to review how to write a text dependent analysis.  Students will read "Sowing Community" and write an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.  We will review the components and write one paragraph per day during class.  This means that students should not have homework.

We will also work on varied sentence structure, pronouns, and possibly verbs.  As always, students will have time during class to complete their Study Island requirements.  Remember, students may keep working at a topic until they earn whatever score they desire; however, I will not accept submissions after the due date.  Varied Sentence Structure and Pronouns are due on Friday.

Have a great week!

"The Story of an Hour" Escape Room

"The Story of an Hour" Escape Room- Enter Codes Here

March 12 - March 16

English Lit / English Comp

This week students will be reviewing/applying some of the skills that we have worked on throughout the year in the form of an escape room.  We will cover plot, figurative language, theme, point of view, context clues, and text organization.  Class will take place in the small group instruction rooms so students can work comfortably in groups and rotate from station to station.  We completed a short "escape room" today, and students learned a lot and had a lot of fun!  Below you will find some pictures.

In addition to working on the concepts mentioned above, we will continue to learn new skills and test our understanding of them via Study Island.  This week we will work on compare and contrast.  This topic will be due at the end of the period on Wednesday.

March 5 - March 9

English Lit / English Comp

I don't really want to make very specific plans because of the impending snowstorm.  The latest forecast has the snow starting late Tuesday/all day Wednesday.

As of now, I plan on having the selection test on Al Gore's Nobel Speech on Wednesday.  If we're not here, the test will be on Thursday.  If for some reason we wouldn't have school on Thursday, the test would be on Friday.

This week's Study Island and the PSSA practice test are due on Thursday as of now.  If we don't have school on Wednesday, I will push it back to Friday.

Hopefully we can get into a routine again soon!
