Grade 7
This week students will continue to work on their argumentation skills. Students will take part in an argumentation relay on Tuesday. Students will also work on improving their backing and counterarguments. On Thursday, students will write an essay about the best show on television. We will focus on revision on Friday.
*All makeup work is due on Wednesday
Grade 9
Students will continue working on argumentative writing this week. Last week, students learned about claims, evidence, warrants, backing, and counter arguments. This week will be all about practicing and strengthening those elements in their writing. Argumentation is a skill that will follow them all the way through college and beyond, so it is important for them to master the basic components.

Students will work on the elements of argument this week. The basic conception of argument includes a claim, evidence, a warrant, backing, and a counter argument. Students will come to understand and apply these concepts.

We are going to continue to write essays and build upon our previous knowledge. Students will revise their invention essays this week/review key concepts. There will be a quiz on introductory paragraphs on Tuesday and a quiz on conclusions on Thursday.
*Students will only have work to complete outside of class if they are not finishing their writing during class time.

Students will continue working on improving their writing skills this week via essays, individualized feedback, and error-embedded passages. There will be a grammar quiz on Friday. It will focus on titles of articles and quotes.
*The role model essay was due on Friday. If your student hasn't turned it in, he/she needs to get it to me ASAP. This is a 100 point assignment.
*The unusual food essay is due at the end of the period tomorrow. If your student doesn't finish during class, he/she is expected to do it for homework.
